Customer Rating: Summary: Krups is Going Downhill Comment: This is the third Krups espresso machine we have purchased and with each generation the quality gets worse. Originally, the internals of these machines were made in Switzerland and lasted a lifetime. I still have one that is 17 years old that I use as a spare machine. Althought I have not looked inside the one we bought six months ago, my bet is the internals are Chinese. In 2-3 years, the steam knob will get so hard to turn you will not be able use the machine anymore and lubrication does not fix the problem. That's what happened to our second Krups expresso machine.
When we bought our third Krups machine, the filter holder was defective and Krups replaced that. The surface of the filter holder that mates to the gasket was so rough and it would not safely go on the machine. The steam nozzle was also poorly machined and needed a wrench to remove it. I replaced that with a part from our second machine and it now works fine. The little tube that lets in air would not seal properly around the black plastic air vent and too much air was being let in. I switched it with an older part I had and got that working properly. Finally, the steam tube was bent downward too far and I carefully bent it back into position. Everything is finally working on this machine. I guess I should have just sent it back for a refund.
This is our last Krups expresso machine until they fix the quality. My hope is Krups will wake up and make a "Classic Krups Espresso" machine with all European components. I would gladly pay double or more for a high quality Swiss/German machine. In the meantime, if you want to buy this machine, save all of the parts from your older Krups machine. You will definitely need them. Customer Rating: Summary: seal lasted one week Comment: Don't waste your time with this one. We got it, used it a couple times a day and at the end of a week it would no longer maintain a good seal and thus push no water through the grounds. Customer Rating: Summary: Great machine Comment: I was given an 872 krups espresso machine and really like it. I have been buying my latte's but now make my own and they are great. I love lots of froth and this machine does the trick for me. I use 1% milk, sugar free flavoing and they taste just as good as the professionals. I am happy. This was a used machine and had hard water build up in it. I put vinegar through it a couple times and then clear water several times and all is fine now. Customer Rating: Summary: I love mine so much I bought 1 as a gift Comment: I have had this model for several years and just love it. I grind my own beans pack them lightly in the cup poor in the water and thats it. I like a latte and the milk foamer works great. A little experimenting is required to get the air mixture just right but this is NOT a drawback from the machines design.
I can make a latte ect. just as good as starbucks. I like lots of foam in mine and this machine is easy to use and very economical too. It takes little to no skill to operate. I wouldn't waste money on a more expensive machine when this one works just as well.
Replacement parts are available here on amazon ( if you are concidering a different machine, make sure parts can be obtained as with some mfg. are nearly impossible to get).
Customer Rating: Summary: For $29.99 at ROSS this was a great deal! Comment: I can't believe anyone would have trouble operating this thing.
Turn the knob forward for brewing and backward for steam. How hard is that? My wife's the coffee fiend, and now I'm the Espresso Prince for giving her pleasure!
It's a cinch to clean too!
