The Alfi Sophie carafe is an attractive thermal carafe constructed with high quality polypropylene and features "easy" one-hand operation and the alfiDur vacuum hardglass liner. Equipped with Alfi's double-walled vacuum glass liner, which keeps liquids hot or cold for up to 12 hours. The twin-walled alfiDur thoughened hardglass liner creates a vacuum between the walls, allowing neither heat nor cold to escape. 100% performance tested. Made in Germany.

Customer Rating: Summary: Surprise Christmas Gift Comment: I took a chance on this Carafe because I liked its looks and the price. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she is thrilled with it. This was my first purchase on Amazon and I am completely happy with the service and will do more buying on this site. The Carafe is even more attractive than the picture of it. Sorry that I can't be funny but I am more than satisfied. Anyone that wants a really attractive Carafe should go for this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect! Comment: I have no clue what the other reviewers are talking about when they state that this carafe does not keep their water/coffee hot! They must've not read the instructions, and are not "pumping" the little lever two or three times after closing the lid. A vacuum is created when you do that, and next time you press the lever (e.g. to pour the liquid out) you actually hear a PFFFFT! My water, which I pour into a cup for tea, is kept VERY hot for several hours. I mean 5-6 hours, being hot enough to brew tea (luke-warm water would not work!) Yes, not for 13 hours as stated in the description, but I am not using boiling water, just hot water that comes from a normal office cooler (around 180 degrees Farenheit... water boils at 312 degrees!)
Regarding the capacity: exactly 4 metric cups. Basically: 1 liter, or around 1/4 of a gallon. I guess that could be translated into "8 cups" of coffee or tea, if each cup does not hold 1 metric cup... but, I agree that the description is misleading because I was thinking at first that it will have a capacity of 2 liters (8 metric cups). With that said, 1 liter is plenty of water/tea for me in a regular day.
Regarding the color: yes, it is not as glossy as in the picture, but it is not too far from it. WAY better than one of those ugly aluminum or steel carafes with black plastic on the top and bottom!!!
All in all, this is a fantastic product, for an excellent price. Just don't forget to pump!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Blue & white Comment: I have this in both blue and white. I use blue for coffee, white for tea, just to keep those flavors completely separate.
To update a few of the reviews below... they've fixed the shipping problem. Both carafes came over-packaged, if anything. Extra box, bubble wrap, foam peanuts. No more problems on that score.
My blue carafe is shiny, but not that nice dark midnight blue in the picture above. It is a much more primary blue. Still nice, but not the elegant blue that you see in the picture. The white is a very nice shiny, smooth white. I'm sure over time that the finish will dull with repeated washing, but it hasn't happened yet.
Performance has been great for me. I do not wish to drink coffee or tea that is more than a few hours old, so I have no need for a 13-hour carafe. I preheat with hot water; I like my drinks piping hot. Works fine for 3-4 hours; haven't really tested it scientifically.
I personally think these are nicer looking than the stainless carafes that are out there, and I purposely chose this line because I could get different colors to differentiate the drinks for parties and whatnot. One hand operation is a breeze. The spout does not drip.
Size has been great. I use the Nissan thermal French press for coffee (about a quart) and the Chantal white quart teapot for loose tea. When I brew a full serving in these, they fill up the carafes nicely.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet. The lid holds condensation and it's hard to get it all out. Impossible, I'd say. That gives me a little bit of pause what with bacteria and all, but I think that is a feature common to all thermal carafes like this. I just do my best to shake out all the water and leave it exposed to the air at all times. I do not store the carafe with the lid screwed on. I also do not add any dairy products to the carafe.
These are made in Germany.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Carafe for The Price Comment: First I want to respond about the comment regarding 8 cups - this refers to 8 "cups" as in old style cups (think fine china) you would drink from. These traditionally were 4 oz - half the size of a cup as a unit of measurement. Incidentally this is the same as on your coffee maker, when it says a cup it is usually 4 oz (some are about 5 oz) referring to the drinking cup. Not sure? Then fill your coffee pot to the 10 "cup" line and see how many ounces you get when measuring, it will be about 40 ounces. Anyway, I digress...
The carafe, keeps my coffee hot for a couple of hours, as hot as if it where out of the pot and certainly saves money on my electric bill for not having the 1000 watts run for hours. I have never had coffee in there longer than 3 hours, but it is just as hot as when brewed, so no complaints. Not sure I would want to drink coffee that has been sitting any longer, so not sure how long it "really" stays hot. But for general all purpose use, it looks decent on the countertop, works well, and is affordable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Warmth Comment: This was extremely helpful while we were having guests that woke up at various times. The coffee stayed quite warm, and it didn't over "cook" in the french press.
