Summary: Great Coffee, but
Comment: This is the third capresso that my wife and I have owned. It makes great
coffee, and is very easy to use, but, the display seems to go out in about 2 years making it useless. We tried the Cuisinart (about half the price), but we found it to be much harder to use. The display on the new Capresso looks a little bit different, so hopefully, they have fixed that problem.

Comment: I have had this coffee maker for 14 months several months ago numbers on the display started going out now they are all out, the machine still works but I have to measure beans into hopper and push start twice to get them all to grind, after reading other reviews and talking to friends this is a common problem. Way to much money for a machine that is going to last a year.

Summary: Ten years old and going strong
Comment: We received this for a wedding gift over ten years ago. I was only looking here because I broke the carafe last night and need a new one. I saw that it was getting mixed reviews and wanted to share our love for our capresso. Like I said, we've had it for over ten years and use it every day - when there's company over sometimes 2-3 times in one day. It makes for a great alarm clock and the coffee is still great. We broke the little spring on the filter last year, so no more stop and pour, but other than that we haven't had any issues with it whatsoever! My sister who bought it for me has gone through three coffee makers to my one and wishes she had just spent the money to buy herself one years ago. Some of the issues I saw with a quick scan was strength of coffee. After you use it a while, you get a feel for it and you'll find what works for you best - you have to play with the options to get what works best for you. We like strong coffee and pick the coarse grind, dark brew and I add 1/2 c extra water because it gets absorbed in the filter and brewing process. I clean it with a vinegar/water solution once a quarter and wipe it down every other week. It's survived three cross country moves and if it ever dies, I hope to get another one just like it!

Summary: Limited lifespan, but great while it lasted
Comment: We got this as a wedding gift 6 years ago and we loved the grind and brew aspect. It made perfect coffee all the time and the swinging arm action after grinding seemed so clever. However, within 2 years, the orange display started fading in parts -- but we could still work around it by guessing. Then 4 or 5 years later the grinding mechanism slowed down so that we had to grind coffee 2-3 times to get the right strength of coffee. The grinder still works, but we now just use this like a regular coffeemaker since it's a hassle to grind 2-3 times for coffee (you have to stand there at watch it, otherwise you miss your window of opportunity when the filter part swings over to start brewing). The display is now so faded now that we can't program it anymore.
I've contacted the manufacturer who gave me decent instructions on how to de-clog the grinder, but it hasn't fixed the problem. They say it will cost $70+ to fix the grinder (not including my costs to ship it to them) - it just seems like too much of a hassle to fix. So our lovely $220 coffee maker pretty has the same functioning as the cheapest one you can find. If I knew it would only last 5 years, I wouldn't have asked for it as a gift.

Summary: Capresso perfection
Comment: This is a wonderful coffee maker. I love how it grinds the whole beans in a compartment away from the water and filter compartments. This keeps the steam away from the grinder and the grounds do not get caked in. I fill the grinder with beans and add the water to the reservoir the night before, setting the timer for the morning. It makes wonderful coffee from the fresh beans. I definately recommend this coffee maker.
