5 cup vacuum pot coffee brewer. The Yama Vacuum Brewer ships with one filter cloth, the filter assembly, a measuring spoon, lid/stand, and vacuum brewer. Additional filters are available for an additional charge. "Cup" refers to Yama's idea of what a cup should be and equals about 3-4 ounces for each cup. Directions for use:Use a slightly finer grind of coffee, somewhere around "auto drip" however you may experiment to taste.Dropthe washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infusion chamberwith the chain hanging down into the glass syphon tube. Pull the chaindown until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube.Fill the bottom carafe to the 5 cup mark with hot water and place 5 measuring spoons of coffee mark in top chamber.Using the wire trivet between the coffee siphon and the burner place the coffee siphon on the burner and turn on to medium heat. DO NOT TURN THE BURNER ON HIGH As the water boils, it will be syphoned up to the top chamber where it will infuse with the ground coffee. A little water will always remain in the bottom water chamber.Let brew about 60 seconds, then remove the pot from the heat source. Oncethe coffee starts to cool the liquid is siphoned back down into thebottom carafe. Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand,and bring the pot to the table for serving.Gently rock the upper carafe back and forth until it can easily be removed and placed into it's stand.Serve and enjoy your fresh great tasting coffee.AlthoughIsopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol which is available at all drug stores canbe used in the alcohol burner, Denatured Alcohol which can be purhcasedmost hardware stores will burn hotter and help heat the water quicker.Check out Old Timey Dave's (Dave W) Flickr feed to follow our EspressoParts adventure brewing with the Yama 5 Cup Tabletop Vacpot. For more information Mark Prince has provided an excellent FAQ on Coffee Vacpots on Coffeekid.comThe information below was taken from Wikipedia.HistoryThe device was invent

Summary: Great coffee, almost great pot.
Comment: I am on my 3rd pot as keep breaking them. The fact that I continue to use the same brand is the best endorsement I can think of. The coffee is great and I am not able to go back to drip coffee. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the handle which over time will melt away.

Summary: The best coffee, and great for teas.
Comment: When I started using my Yama 5-cup, it instantly made me realize that my previous stove-top coffee making devices had to go. The Yama makes the best Americano coffee that you will get anywhere.

Here is my method for making coffee with it:

1. Make certain that there are no water droplets on the bottom of the pot! Then place just the bottom section on med-high heat (a 7 on my electric range) with your desired water amount (3 or 5 cups).
2. When water starts to bubble slightly (steeping), put the top on it. The water will now "travel north". Now that the water is up top set the heat to low, and add your coffee (ground slightly finer than drip). I use 45 grams of coffee for 5 cups, or 30 grams for 3 cups.
3. Set a timer for 2 minutes.
4. After two minutes, remove the Yama from the heat. After about a minute off the heat the coffee up top will fill back into the bottom, because you have broken the vacuum by lowering the heat.
5. Supposing everything was done perfectly, after 4 minutes all of the coffee will be back in the bottom ready to drink. Getting the grind perfect is your goal.

TIP:
Get an antique "cory rod" glass filter off of ebay ($5-15). They fit the Yama 3, 5, and 8 cup models. They are also much easier to clean than a cloth filter, and never need to be replaced.

Summary: Be Careful of the Handle
Comment: I have used this pot daily for several months. I prefer manual coffee brewers because I control the steep time.

It makes much better coffee than an autodrip and is easy to use, but the handle will melt if the pot is not carefully placed on the burner and the flame kept low.

Try the Bodum Santos filter for an easy to clean substitute for the cloth filter.

Summary: tea pot
Comment: I got it for coffee, but, it's great for loose tea. It is the easiest method I've use, making perfect tea. Easy to clean, easy to brew!
